IDEA // Armory
Four steps, about five minutes. Do them on the Windows computer you will use with SolidWorks.
Sign in first, so this page can see when your computer connects.

2. Install it
Not done yet. It takes about a minute.
- Open the file you downloaded (IDEA-Armory-Setup-v0.3.3.exe). It is in your Downloads folder.
- If a blue box says Windows protected your PC, press More info, then Run anyway. Windows says this because the installer is not signed yet; it is the real one.
- It installs for your own Windows account. It never asks for an administrator password.
-
3. Connect this computer
Not connected yet. This page notices on its own once you do.
- Open IDEA Armory from the Start menu.
- Press Connect. Your browser opens a page that asks to connect this computer to your account.
- Press Connect this computer on that page. Then come back here.
-
4. Your projects
You are not in a project yet. A mentor adds you by your school email.
How Armory works
- Check out
- Opening a part in SolidWorks checks it out to you. Everyone else sees who has it and can still open it to look.
- Check in
- Saving and closing checks it in. Your save becomes the newest version on every computer in the project.
- Versions
- Every check in is kept. Open a file here to see each version, who saved it and when, and download an old one.
- Side versions
- If you save a file someone else had checked out, or save from an older copy, your work is kept as a side version beside the main one. Nothing is ever thrown away.
- Undo check out and Force check in
- Undo check out gives a file back without saving. A mentor, a CAD lead, an instructor or a site admin can use Force check in on a file someone forgot to check in; their unsaved changes are kept as a side version.
